Acupuncture COVID-19 Precautions

Given the history and intense spread of COVID-19 in China and the reports of Acupuncturists on the ground all over the world, it appears that Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine has been very beneficial as part of the treatment of COVID-19 patients, helping patients stay out of the hospital, especially out of the ICU and intubation, and helping them heal more quickly.

However we are NOT treating patients with COVID-19 here at the Acupuncture Lafayette clinic. If you or someone you know has come down with COVID-19, we can schedule a telemedicine session to work out a treatment strategy.

Given the ongoing threat of COVID-19, acupuncturists are practicing differently than before. Even with the advent of vaccinations, we still have a ways to go before the threat of the pandemic is diminished. As ‘Essential Health Workers’, we received the second of two Pfizer vaccinations February 18, 2021. At Acupuncture Lafayette, in order to protect ourselves and others with more compromised immune systems, we have implemented the following Acupuncture COVID-19 Precautions:

1. Self Pre-Screening:

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms listed below, please don’t come to the office, but do schedule a telemedicine session where we can discuss your situation in detail, prescribe herbs & acupressure points, and offer lifestyle recommendations:

    • Cough
    • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
    • Fever
    • Chills
    • Muscle pain
    • Sore throat
    • New loss of taste or smell
    • Diarrhea

    2. Face masks:

Wear a clean comfortable face mask when you enter the office. If you don’t have one, we have some for sale ($5-10). We also be wearing a face mask.

*Please wear a face mask that does not have a valve.*

    3. Entryway Routine:

    a. Upon entering the building, clean your hands with sanitizer located next to the entrance. We will check your body temperature with a ‘no-contact’ thermometer and ask you if you’ve been out of the country within the last couple of weeks.

    b. Assuming you haven’t been out of the country and your temperature is normal, you may proceed to the treatment room with the open door.

    c. Place your belongings in the black plastic container next to the chair, take off your shoes and socks, and lie down on the treatment table. If you’d like, you’re welcome to use hand sanitizer again.

For the safety of you and others, we are using the following procedures and technology in the clinic:

    • Constant disinfection of knobs, switches, and commonly used surfaces with an effective and non-toxic cleaner (Pure Green 24),
    • Clean sheets changed after each patient,
    • Frequent use of hand sanitizer located in every room,
    • UV light air filters for killing airborne germs,
    • UV light that activates when the cover is put on top of the black plastic container in which your belongings have been placed,
    • UV light that activates for one minute after the toilet seat cover is placed down,
    • Increased HEPA air filtration.

Given the lack of a timely and coordinated worldwide response to COVID-19, these Acupuncture COVID-19 Precautions will probably continue for the next half-year or so.  If you have any questions please let us know. Your understanding and cooperation is very much appreciated.
